Xenia Rural Water District has announced that the city of Menlo is currently under a boil advisory until further notice.

The company that provides water service to the Guthrie County town says that the boil advisory is due to a water main break from earlier Tuesday morning. Xenia details that there was a problem in the distribution system, which resulted in the overall water system losing pressure. Xenia officials say that due to the potential for bacterial contamination, they are recommending to residents to boil their tap water for drinking or using it for cooking. They are also recommending that people can use an alternative source of water, such as bottled water.

Xenia adds that the issue has been fixed and the system is pressurized again, but as a precaution, the boil advisory will remain in place until the results of the bacterial testing has been completed. Raccoon Valley Radio will bring you more information as it becomes official.
