Those looking for a way to celebrate Valentine’s Day outdoors can join the Dallas County Conservation Board.

Outreach Coordinator Jeni Baker says a Valentine Volunteer Day will be held from 9-11 a.m. on Saturday at Hanging Rock Park in Redfield. 

“Hopefully we’ll have a good group of volunteers that want to come and help us remove some non-native shrubs and shade-tolerant trees and make room for new growth and sunlight so the native oak-hickory forests can grow like they’re supposed to.”

Baker invites anyone needing school volunteer hours or just looking for a hands-on activity to join the conservation board on Saturday. She adds that couples are also welcome to make it a date as there is a shelter area to enjoy lunch after the volunteer day.

While the event is free, Baker encourages those interested to register online through the conservation board’s Eventbrite page.
