The Guthrie Center City Council met in regular session Monday night.

The Council approved resolutions authorizing the annual fund transfers previously budgeted during the fiscal year 2025-26 budget approval process and naming a Mary J Barnett Memorial Library Board member replacing a vacancy after Marcia Priestley’s retirement. They also heard from City Administrator Kris Arrasmith on an overview of the fiscal year 2026-27.

The Council received an update from Streets Superintendent Darin Sloss, who shared that his department had begun repairs at the lagoon, and that they are waiting for a report back from the engineer on what the next steps should be. He added that repairs for the skid loader had come in well under the original quote, that he was gathering final figures for the new storage shed at the cemetery, and that he will have a manhole rehab quote for approval at the next Council meeting.

Arrasmith also shared that the new copier/printer units had been installed at both City Hall and the public works building, that public works will assist the Guthrie Center Development Group and Main Street Guthrie Center in cleaning out the downtown building at 312 State Street as an in-kind donation. She added that a Facebook page has been established for information regarding the Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa (RAGBRAI) stop in town during July, and that that page can be found by searching “Guthrie Center Ragbrai 2026” on Facebook.
