Senior Katie Biscoglia, who is apart of the Raccoon River Northwest Wrestling Team, just wrapped up her high school career, which set an incredible foundation for the future of the sport within the state of Iowa.

RRNW is a combination of four schools, including Adel-DeSoto-Minburn, Van Meter, Waukee, and Waukee Northwest. Biscoglia currently attends Van Meter, and began her wrestling journey in 2016 after her older brother Kyle went to the Olympic Training Center and thought it could be a sport that Katie could do, even though she was in gymnastics at the time. Kyle wrestled for Waukee High School and is a 3-Time Champion who is now wrestling at the University of Northern Iowa, as Katie shares that he is always there to crack a joke with her or pick her up when she is feeling down.

Katie put together quite the impressive high school resume, finishing her career with a 206-2 overall record, and is a 3-Time Champion herself, plus a four-time finalist, falling in her final match against Ankeny’s Lauren Watson. Despite that, she has impacted the future of the sport, as not only her teammates admire her but also other wrestlers and younger girls around the state. In addition, Katie’s father James Biscoglia is the Head Coach of RRNW, and she realizes that it’s a special aspect to have.

“Not a lot of girls get to have their Dad in their corner, and that’s something that I’m really lucky that I do get to have. And it’s really nice that he gets to be there for the happy times and the sad times, and there’s no one else that I would rather have in my corner. In the past, we have had conversations about (how) we can both do better as a coach and an athlete to make sure that there’s time set aside for family, and time set aside for sports. And I really think that this year we had a very good connection through that.”

During Katie’s time with RRNW, the team won back to back state titles, as Katie points out that she understands the hard work that each wrestler put into achieving that feat. Also, she was ecstatic to see her teammates Cassidy McCallister, Addison McGinness, and Calista Rodish win individual state titles this year. Although Katie’s high school career is over, she is not done wrestling as she’ll be attending Wartburg College in the fall to continue her career with the Knights in Waverly, as she’ll be majoring in Sports Administration.
