Three Greene County Rams qualified for the the State Wrestling Tournament in Class 2A by finishing first or second in their weight classes on Saturday at the District 8 Tournament held inside the Sergeant Bluff-Luton Elementary School. All three are juniors and Jaron Jacobs at 120 lbs. and Degan Miller at 165 won their weight classes with Brennan Jacobs at 106 was second.

Jaron Jacobs improved to 30-9 on the season after getting a bye, then winning by first period fall in the semifinals. He led Carroll’s Carson Tedrow from start to finish to earn his second trip to State and his second in a row.

Degan Miller is making his third trip to State in as many years. He also had a bye in the opening round, then won by fall in 3:03 in the semi’s before pinning his finals opponent, Noah Chapman of SBL, in 1:30. Now 27-9, Miller was fifth at 165 at the 2025 State Tournament.

Brennan Jacobs led 3-0 before falling behind and losing by fall in 5:01 to Luke Walsh of SB-L, ranked number seven in the weight class. Jacobs, ranked third, and Walsh, each have a win this season vs. the other. Jacobs was the top seed on Saturday and he’ll take a 33-4 record to Casey’s Center.

Two other Rams placed in the top four with freshman Kading Winters (132) and junior Nehemiah Hoyt (215) each were fourth.

Host school SB-L was the team champion at 228.5 points, followed by Humboldt 191, Carroll 187, Greene County 85, MOC-Floyd Valley 76, Kuemper Catholic (Carroll) 66, OABCIG (Ida Grove) 59, and Bishop Heelan Catholic (Sioux City) 26.

Class 2A doesn’t wrestle until Thursday afternoon at Casey’s Center in Des Moines. Each wrestler is guaranteed two matches and individuals could wrestle as many as six times over the course of the tournament. The top eight finishers earn medals and their places on the podium, and take part in the Grand March prior to the Saturday night finals.
