The Adel Fire Department is cautioning anyone wanting to do controlled burns in Dallas County.
According to the department, as of Sunday afternoon, fire crews across the county have responded to about 15 incidents since this past Friday where grass fires have resulted from controlled burns that got out of control. The Adel Fire Department has responded to almost five itself.
The Adel Fire Department is asking anyone looking to do controlled burns to exercise caution because there is very little ground moisture and with dormant grass and vegetation can ignite quickly. They know that residents are responsible when deciding to do a controlled burn, but the department is advising everyone of some safety precautions to help ensure the reduced risk of further incidents. The fire department says someone should be monitoring the fire at all times, have adequate water on hand to control any issues, avoid during windy days and never leave a fire unattended.
