On Saturday, the Perry Bluejays wrestling team traveled to Ballard for the Class 2A district 1 meet with hopes of qualifying for the state championship. Two of the 12 Bluejays reached second place in their respective weight classes to qualify, freshmen Hayden Splendore and junior Townes Wilson.
In his first year with the varsity squad, Splendore found success all season long, as he enters the state championship with over 30 wins and seven losses, with one being in the first place match up at districts against Tyler Gerhold of Alburnett. Wilson battled back, going three for four on the mat at districts, battling back from a loss in the semifinals. In a back and forth contest, Wilson defeated Clay Strang of Alburnett, by decision 12-8 to place second and qualify for state.
Splendore and Wilson prepare to represent the Bluejays at the 2026 Boys State Wrestling Championships at the Casey’s Center in Des Moines. The first round for Class 2A is set to begin at 2:30pm on Thursday with coverage on KDLS.
