In just its third year of existence the boys’ bowling team from Greene County High School will be making its first Class 1A State Tournament trip to Cadillac Lanes in Waterloo next week. The Rams qualified by winning the title at the State Qualifying Meet at Starline Lanes in Carroll on Monday. As if that wasn’t enough Ram sports history, senior Teagan Chisholm and junior Chase Fecher qualified for State as individuals.
Coach John Woodford’s boys totaled 3,166 pins for the 15 Baker games and 2025 State Champion Vinton-Shellsburg was second at 3,058. Carroll was third at 2,721 with 2,638 for Kuemper Catholic (Carroll), 2,552 by MMCRU (Remsen), Harlan Community 2,409, 2,370 from OABCIG, and 2,162 by West Central Valley (Stuart). The Rams built a lead of nearly 300 pins through the first 10 games, then withstood a late charge by V-S to win by more than 100 pins.
Five bowlers roll two frames each in the Baker games with coaches choosing their lineups from six bowlers. The Greene County six were senior Teagan Chisholm, juniors Chase Fecher, Damein Hull, Jacob Rumley, and Calvin Fields, plus sophomore Jared Dawson.
Following the Baker games, individual three game series were played with the top four individuals qualifying for State, also next week at Cadillac Lanes in Waterloo. Chisholm was second with a 655 series and Fecher was fourth at 633. Chishom’s three games were 172, 269, 214, while Fecher went 225, 245, 163.
“What a day!” exclaimed Coach Woodford. “We bowled together and bowled well.”
