District 12 Senator Amy Sinclair

An interesting bill made its way through the Senate during the fifth week of the 2026 legislative session.

Senator for District 12 Amy Sinclair says that Senate File 2172 would allow couples to opt out of no-fault divorces. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio more on the bill.

“I would be surprised if the bill advances, but I think the intention behind the Senator’s introducing this bill is that we have seen such an increase in divorce rates over time. And I think he wanted to just put it out there that some people would opt into that so that they didn’t have to deal with a prenuptial agreement or issues like that.”

Sinclair mentions that this option would make a more solemn contract that couples are entering into. She adds that while she doesn’t anticipate the bill going forward, it does bring light to the fact that the current system makes divorce a very easy path for people to take.
