DCG boys wrestling had eight different wrestlers qualify for the individual state tournament this week at Casey’s Center. 

Quinn Harris had a 25-20 record this season wrestling in the 106-pound weight class. He goes into the tournament unranked. Noah Kerndt, in the 120, has a 30-16 record, though he also heads to downtown Des Moines unranked. 

In the 132, Avery Van Zelderen is 36-8 on the year, and he earned his way to a ranked spot at state, going in as the #6 seed. His teammate, Cole Hemmingsen, is also the six seed after a 36-8 campaign in the 157.

Last year, Tyde Nelson earned a trip to state as a freshman, and this year, as a sophomore, he’s back as the #5 seed in the 175  after going 38-5 in the regular season. Climbing the weight ladder, 190 lbs, Kellen Wegner is the highest-rated Mustang going into the tournament. He is the #3 seed after an incredible 40-win season. 

The last two wrestlers for DCG are Connor Stolpe and Lucas Sholl in the 215 and 285, respectively. Stolpe was 10-8 this year, while Lucas Sholl was 33-13 but did not earn a ranking in the tournament. 

Session one of class 3A begins at 4 pm with the first round at the Casey’s Center.
