Junior Townes Wilson, one of two Perry Bluejays wrestlers to qualify for the 2026 state championships, explained his wrestling style as he prepares for his first match at state on Thursday.
“I would say I definitely try and mostly just create the right positions for myself and put myself in the best position to score. Not try and force too much but get to the places I need to be.”
Wilson, in the 138 pound weight class this season, has created the right positions to secure 24-18 record in his junior campaign while punching his ticket to the state tournament to represent the Perry Bluejays in Class 2A. Humbly, Wilson thanked everyone for their support alongside his journey to the state tournament.
“This past weekend at districts, being able to accomplish my goals and have that feeling of ‘I did it, I’ve done what I want to do” then also be able to celebrate with all the people around me after my final match. It was a very special moment for me.”
Wilson and Hayden Splendore represent the Perry Bluejays on Thursday with Class 2A action set to begin at 2:30pm. Coverage on the Raccoon Valley Radio Network will be live throughout the state tournament.
