DCG boys basketball rode into a tough Ankeny gym against a stout Hawks team Monday night and fell 78-51.

It was the junior Jasari Campbell who got out to an incredible start, knocking down three threes with a couple of sweet lay-ins to snag 13 points in the first frame. Chase Perrin did all he could, answering with two triples of his own to open the scoring for the Mustangs, but Ankeny flew out to a 25-14 lead.

In the second quarter, Campbell’s senior point guard, Amario Aguirre, got involved. He dropped in a couple of smooth jumpers to put in seven in the quarter. DCG’s offense sputtered in the second, scoring just five thanks to Perrin hitting one three and Brody Logan crossing his defender for a nifty layup, but the Hawks soared to halftime up 45-19.

In the second half, it was more of the same. Luke Lorenzen did come out strong with eight points in the third quarter and finished with 12, but it was not enough as Ankeny rode Campbell and Aguirre, who finished with 20 and 18, to lead the Hawks to a 78-51 win Monday night.

With the loss, the Mustangs drop to 12-8(7-4). They are in action tonight in Ballard against a Bombers team that is 20-1 overall on the year. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:15 pm.
