The Weary Ramblers continue to rack up awards, with the latest being one of their biggest yet.
The musical duo of Chad Elliott from Jefferson and Kathryn Severing-Fox recently earned from the 2026 International Acoustic Music Awards, the Overall Grand Prize and Best Country Bluegrass Song with, “Kentucky Never Seemed So Blue” from their second album, “Driftwood.” Elliott tells Raccoon Valley Radio that finding out their song was named the Best Country Bluegrass Song was one level of excitement, but then to know that it was the Overall Grand Prize winner took that emotion to another level.
“We were over the moon because some of our favorite artists have won this one like last year was Charlie Parr and the year before it was Dom Flemons of the Carolina Chocolate Drops. And so we’re big fans of those guys and all the other winners. And so, to be considered among that league is a great honor and we’re just very grateful for all these awards that are coming through.”
Elliott explains the song was written while they were on tour and as they were crossing the Ohio River into Kentucky, a sign read “Bluegrass Highway” with a full moon on the horizon. He joked that both he and Severing-Fox had pneumonia when they first wrote the lyrics and harmonies.
The band that also features Sam Bush on mandolin, also won the Song of the Year in Americana from the Josie Awards for the duo/group/collab category, earned a silver medal in the 2026 Global Music Awards for Americana and Duo categories and won the Solo/Duo category from the International Blues Challenge. Elliot also was named Best Guitarist from the same contest.
Severing-Fox adds that this has been a surreal year for their ensemble as these awards have meant so much to them. She is proud of the fact that they continue to stay out of a particular music genre and are being recognized for so many different kinds of music.
