The Iowa House recently passed a bill to increase funding for public schools.

The House bill proposes a 2 percent increase for the State Supplemental Aid (SSA) of additional money for the next school year. The Iowa Senate previously passed a similar bill that would increase funding by 1.75 percent. Adel-DeSoto-Minburn Superintendent Greg Dufoe says the district has split the difference and is using the 2 percent increase in its budget planning process.

He adds that the district will adjust as the proposals are finalized. Dufoe details that while ADM’s school budget is very healthy, there are still impacts for continued low SSA.

“We would certainly be very open to Supplemental State Aid that was north of 2 percent. We can do different things and consider different things up to and including larger raises for our teachers and other programming types of additions that become more problematic to consider when SSA is at the level that it’s been.”

Dufoe details that the ADM district will continue to work on its 2026/27 budget. The first public hearing will be held during a special ADM School Board meeting at 5:30 p.m. on March 23.
