Adel-DeSoto-Minburn’s junior Ethan Johnson and senior Grayson Sutter made it to day number two of the Iowa High School Boys State Wrestling Tournament in Des Moines on Thursday, as Johnson will be a guaranteed place winner.
Johnson, in weight class 150, was in the Class 3A Quarterfinal round on Thursday, but lost to Clinton’s Danny Peters by a 10-4 decision. That put him in the consolation bracket, where he would skate by Johnston’s Isaiah Madison in a 12-11 decision to secure a guaranteed top-eight place winner.
For Sutter, after winning in the second round on Wednesday, he came up short on Thursday, losing to Dowling Catholic’s Kyler Simons by a 14-0 major decision in the quarterfinals. Sutter then moved to the consolation bracket, and was defeated in his second match versus Linn-Mar’s Tegan Ray in a 5-1 decision as his season came to a close.
ADM’s Johnson is the only remaining Tiger left and will begin today’s competition against Dowling Catholic’s Jayden Zachary, which starts at 5pm. Raccoon Valley Radio will carry live coverage of the action from the Casey’s Center in Des Moines.
