Panorama senior Blake Schwartz is representing well at the Iowa High School Athletic Association Boys State Wrestling Tournament in Des Moines, as a third place finish is in his grasp.

Schwartz, who competes in Class 1A at weight class 150, came into the tournament ranked eighth and got a first-round bye before beating Emmetsburg’s Bradyen Yates with a fall (4 minutes and 20 seconds), then lost to South Winneshiek’s Kyle Kuboushek to place him in the consolation bracket.

From there, Schwartz defeated Saint Ansgar’s Andrew Hall in a 13-4 major decision, and won over Riverside Oakland’s Max Shanno in a fall (2:32). Schwartz will now turn his attention to Hinton’s Jackson Kounkel for his next match.

With two losses today, Schwartz would finish sixth, but two wins would give them third place, and he could also get fourth or fifth place. The Class 1A Consolation Semifinals will begin this morning at 9am from the Casey’s Center in Des Moines. Raccoon Valley Radio will carry live coverage on KDLS in Perry, KGRA in Jefferson, and KKRF in Stuart.
