The Mustangs had four wrestlers advance through the blood rounds and guarantee themselves a place finish in the state tournament this weekend. With the tournament wrapped up, here are the final results.
Senior Connor Stolpe was not in the placement matches, but his commitment and resolve for DCG wrestling couldn’t be overlooked. He went 2-2 in the tournament and finished his career making his teammates and coaches proud. In the placement rounds, Kellen Wegner and Tyde Nelson in the 190 and 175-pound weight classes wrapped up their season, placing 7th in their divisions. Wegner and Nelson both went 3-2 inside the Casey’s Center, earning 7 team points for DCG.
Cole Hemmingsen and Avery Van Zelderen were one place above their teammates, earning 6th in the tournament. After receiving a bye, Van Zelderen went 2-3 to place and earned 10.5 points for the Mustangs. The final wrestler up for DCG, Hemmingsen, went 3-3 in his bouts and fought hard for his 10.5 team points.
Although it wasn’t the finish these boys wanted, they made their school and their community proud. Congratulations to all the Mustangs wrestlers on a remarkable individual and team season!
