The Greene County Historical Society recently announced that they are expanding. 

According to Co-Director Mike Piepel, the Historical Society purchased the former Legacy Events building that is directly west of the Greene County Museum as a way to increase their space for displays, more exhibits and provide additional storage. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio, they plan to move some of their stored items into the new building so that those can be on display, with the front room being designated for that area for temporary and longer running exhibits. He states that the Historical Society’s original plan was to first showcase the large Barbie doll collection. 

Piepel points out the new space is ready to move into right now and they will add some shelving for necessary storage. He notes that the Historical Society is planning to adjoin the two buildings through the interiors as well. He says the museum will continue to serve as a place where exhibits will be shown, along with using the front room area for programs. 

Piepel adds that by purchasing this new building, the Historical Society can have more storage for better efficiencies and allows them to expand their collections and offer more displays to attract even more people to visit their location along East Lincoln Way in Jefferson.
