Adel-DeSoto-Minburn junior Ethan Johnson captured a top-eight spot at the Iowa High School Boys State Wrestling Tournament in Des Moines on Saturday.
Johnson, in weight class 150 for Class 3A, competed against Pleasant Valley’s Soren Kelsall in the seventh place match, losing in a technical fall, lasting five minutes and 18 seconds. With that, Johnson finished the tournament in eighth place, but a guaranteed podium spot.
Overall, the Tigers took three other individuals to the state tournament in addition to Johnson, with Paxton Sutter, Grayson Sutter, and Henry Krug. Paxton lost both of his matches in weight class 113, Krug also went 0-2 at the tournament for weight class 165, then Grayson won his first match versus West Des Moines Valley’s Kash Kiner, then lost his two next competitions.
Out of the four state qualifiers, Grayson and Johnson will be graduating in the spring.
