Panorama senior Blake Schwartz had a great run at the Iowa High School Boys State Wrestling Tournament in Des Moines, grabbing a six place finish.

Schwartz, who competes in weight class 165 for Class 1A, first received a bye, then beat Emmetsburg’s Bradyen Yates before he lost to South Winneshiek’s Kyle Kuboushek and was placed in the consolation bracket.

Schwartz first faced Saint Ansgar’s Andrew Hall in the consolations, winning by a 13-4 major decision, then moved on to defeat Riverside Oakland’s Max Shanno in a fall (2 minutes and 32 seconds), and was beat by Hinton’s Jackson Kounkel in a fall (2:35), which put him in the sixth place match against Coon Rapids-Bayard’s Treynor Cose, losing in a fall (1:54) to tally sixth place.

Panorama also took senior Austin Wagner to the state tournament, wrestling in weight class 144. Wagner lost in his initial match to West Sioux Hawarden’s Kendrin VanBeek in a 12-1 major decision. He was then put in the consolation bracket, where Wagner was defeated in his second match to MMCRU’s Parker Glassmaker in a fall (4:29).

Schwartz and Wagner will graduate from Panorama this spring.
