A Dallas County organization is looking to help homeowners make improvements to their homes.

Dallas County Habitat for Humanity is an organization that helps build homes in several communities within the county. Community Partnership Coordinator Lindsey R Van Wyk shares that the organization also offers a Home Preservation Program. Homeowners in Dallas County are invited to apply for the program and are accepted based on their household income and assessed home value.

She details that the program is designed for owner-occupied homes and helps those owners make critical repairs to their homes. R Van Wyk adds that those repairs include roofing, siding, plumbing, electrical, weatherization and accessibility modifications.

She explains the value of the Home Preservation Program.

“This program helps preserve homeownership for folks. We know that homeowners work really hard for their homes and this program is really designed to just assist homeowners with the hard work that they’re already doing to maintain their home. It keeps families and people in their homes for longer, again allowing them longer access to the equity creation of homeownership, as well as just being able to stay safe in their homes for longer.”

She encourages family members, neighbors and community groups to spread the word about the Home Preservation Program. To learn more, call or text 515-664-5944 to speak directly with a Home Preservation Navigator or fill out a home preservation inquiry form on the Greater Des Moines Habitat for Humanity website.
