Mustangs girls’ basketball started their playoff push with a dominating defensive performance against Webster City Saturday night, winning 66-24. The boys look to follow suit tonight at seven. 

Ava Smid ran out of the gate with 15 points in the opening quarter, setting the tone on Saturday night. She ended her night with 20, all coming in the first half. Macy Meyer and Leah Brauch also had double figures in a crushing 42-point win to lead the Mustangs to the regional finals Tuesday night. 

The boys begin substate at home, hosting the Ottumwa Bulldogs. Ottumwa is 4-17 and has lost 8 of its last ten games. The Bulldogs play in the Iowa Alliance South and struggled, going 3-8 in conference play. Cedrik VanEngelenhoven is their leading scorer at 12.3 ppg, and in their last regular season game against Fort Madison, he went for 20 points and 10 rebounds in a loss to the Bloodhounds.
