The leader of the West Central Valley Boys Wrestling Team is anticipating the future of the program, after a successful season.
Wildcats Boys Head Coach Isaac Taylor just completed his first year in his position, but was the assistant coach for the past two years. West Central Valley took three individuals to the Iowa High School Boys State Wrestling Tournament in Des Moines, with freshman Drew Teague, and sophomores Tyler Peugh and Tyce Dlouhy.
Teague, Peugh, and Dlouhy all made their first state appearances, and Coach Taylor says that they took in every moment, even getting to witness how Fort Dodge’s Four-Time State Champion Dreshaun Ross warms up. Taylor explains that he’s amped for the next few years in Wildcat wrestling.
“We’ve got guys that talk about wrestling. They’re already talking about what we should do in the summer, what can we do with freestyle, just trying to make sure they’re trying to do everything they can to make it to that state tournament. We’re really just excited to expand on the guys that we have, the excitement around the West Central Valley wrestling community, and I think that we’re headed in the right direction, and that’s all credit to the guys in the room, buying in to what we’re doing and making sure that they’re putting themselves in the best position possible to be successful.”
West Central Valley will be graduating seniors Theo Garcia and Cylir Joint this spring, and although Taylor is sad to see them go, he’s ecstatic about the growing talent that will continue to come into the program.
