Mustangs girls basketball throttled Pella, 60-28, to beat them for the third time this season and advance to the state tournament from the Casey’s Center in downtown Des Moines.
It was an offensive explosion early on in the game, led by Macy Meyer. The junior made a couple of early threes to spur on her teammates to do the same. Leah Brauch drilled a pair, and Tessa Jones hit one as well, as the Mustangs opened up a 23-3 lead after one.
In the second quarter, Aniyah Boens came off the bench and went right to work, putting in eight points all in the painted area. Meyer hit another triple as DCG extended its advantage. In the second half, the Mustangs got everybody involved. Each player had a role in this game, including senior Paige Harvey, who scored the last field goal for the Mustangs on their home floor this year in a 60-28 win over the Dutch.
With the victory, DCG goes to 21-2 and punches their ticket to the Casey’s Center to play amongst the top eight teams across class 4A girls basketball. The matchups and times are yet to be released, but the Mustangs will play on Tuesday, March 3rd, from downtown Des Moines.
