Spring break for schools might be a few weeks away, but several Greene County ISU Extension activities are starting to fill up fast.
Greene County Extension 4-H and Youth Coordinator Samantha Hardaway says there will be a program Monday through Thursday of spring break, from March 16th-19th. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio, on Monday, March 16th will be Robo Rookies for kindergarten-2nd grade, where participants will gain the basic understanding of coding concepts and robotics. Then on the following day, Tuesday, March 17th, Hardaway points out that 3rd-6th graders have the opportunity to do hands-on activities with Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) Sparks.
Next, on Wednesday, March 18th, Hardaway is excited for the Art Lab, where youth in grades kindergarten-8th will do a variety of things.
“We have all kinds of materials to do all kinds of different art activities at the (Greene County Extension) office. And I really just wanted the opportunity for kids to be able to explore with different mediums of art, and be able to just make something that they’re interested in. So this is going to be just a fun, open art lab that kids can come for two hours and just experiment (with) all different kinds of art.”
Hardaway notes that on Thursday, March 19th two in-person sessions of the required Youth for the Quality Care of Animals (YQCA) training will be held, for anyone youth that is showing beef, sheep, goat, swine, rabbit or poultry at the county or state fair must take. This is for 4th-12th graders. All times, locations and prices for each program can be found below. Hardaway adds that space is limited and to contact her sooner rather than later to get signed up.
