Several bills were introduced this session, and a local representative introduced a few.

House District 23 Representative Ray Sorensen says he worked with a hemp farmer in Madison County to put together House Study Bill 753. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio what it entails.

“Some of the key provisions of the bill are it clarifies definitions around hemp products, establishes a regulatory authority enforcement, creates guardrails for intoxicating hemp products, focuses on youth restrictions, adds labeling and safety expectations, and then provides penalties for noncompliance.”

Sorensen mentions that this helps make rules more consistent, and clears up enforcement. He adds that it also brings order and consumer protection to an already existing market.
