West Central Valley Boys Wrestling Head Coach Isaac Taylor admires the leadership displayed by the two seniors on the team, Cylir Joint and Theo Garcia.
Taylor says that Joint has been on the varsity squad throughout high school, but unfortunately has been injured each year. However, Taylor mentions that when he’s been healthy, he’s steadily improved and placed third at the district meet this year, just one spot away from qualifying for the state tournament.
“One of those guys that comes in, works every day, has a good attitude, and makes guys around him better.”
On the other hand, Taylor notes that Garcia came back to wrestling after doing it his eighth grade year, then again as a senior. He explains that Garcia’s season came to an early end following a broken hand, which put him out, but that he remained committed to practice and helping the other guys on the team achieve their goals.
“He’s still around the room, showed up to every practice, helped us out with the clock, med-supplies, (and) showed up to every meet. So, it was just really nice for him to be out there the whole year and to see him at least give it another crack.”
Taylor acknowledges that he’s going to miss their competitive spirit, but believes that they left an imprint on the program.
