Mustang girls’ wrestling had a year that fans will be sure to remember. Although the team didn’t have the tournament run they wanted in Coralville, they grew in many ways and set themselves up for success in years to come, thanks in large part to two graduating seniors, Sabrina Macke and Brielea Kendall.
Junior Georgia Edwards racked up 253 points to lead the team and posted a record of 31-6 on her season. Sophomore Nia Kiley was next in points with 225, and she had a 33-15 record. Junior Jenah Gray wasn’t far behind as she earned 216 points for DCG with an impressive 38 wins this year and just 10 losses. Ashytyn Jahangir rounds out the four state qualifiers for the Mustangs, and she had just over 200 points as she went 32-9.
The two seniors on the team this season were Sabrina Macke and Brielea Kendall. Macke has been a staple in DCG wrestling in her four years in the 125-135 weight class range with the Mustangs. Kendall didn’t get as much time on the mat as her classmate, but did well when she got her opportunities. The duo became the first wrestlers who spent four years as a part of girls wrestling at Dallas Center-Grimes High School since it became a sanctioned IGHSAU sport in 2022-23. With girls’ wrestling showing rapid growth at every level of school, Macke and Kendall leave behind a lasting legacy beyond their career records and accomplishments on the mat.
Congratulations to all the Mustang girls’ wrestlers on a remarkable season!
