The Adair – Casey / Guthrie Center High School band and choir will be performing their Jazz and Pops Concert Friday night.

Band Director Kyra Babcock mentions that the jazz band will be performing three tunes, with each featuring soloists and sections, using a theme of “Music of the 1960’s.” She shares that the pieces are titled “Hang on Sloopy,” with featured soloists tenor saxophone seniors Tanner Downing and Allie DeWitt, along with the trombone section. Babcock explains the second piece is titled “Somethin’ Stupid,” to be performed by senior Rohnin Grasty and junior Allison Drake. The final piece is a familiar one for many, “House of the Rising Sun,” performed by Laurin Davis on alto saxophone and Megan Underwood on piano.

Choir Director Kelsey Dinkla shares that there will be several choir groups performing many different pieces. She explains that the concert choir will perform a “Lion King Medley,” featuring Natalie Dinkla as soloist, along with “Mister Sandman,” and “One Tin Soldier.” The swing choirs will perform “Build Me Up Buttercup,” while the treble clef choir presents “What Happens When a Woman Takes Power,” and the bass clef choir performs “Hoist the Colors,” with Carter Dinkla, Tanner Downing and Rohnin Grasty as the featured soloists.

Dinkla adds that their Iowa High School Speech Association Large Group All-State Festival Musical Theater group made of Ilana Baumert, Blair Brown, Blakely Buttler, Natalie Dinkla, Montana Douglas, Tanner Downing, Ronin Grasty and Megan Underwood will also perform, putting on their showing of “The Hunchback of Notre Dame.” The concert begins at 6:30pm Friday in the AC/GC High School Auditorium, with a free will donation entry fee.
