West Central Valley Boys Wrestling Head Coach Isaac Taylor shares his experience on his first lead position for the Wildcats.
Taylor details that he coached wrestling at the middle school level in his home state of North Dakota. He describes that when he was hired at West Central Valley, he served as the assistant coach for two years before taking over as head coach this past season. Taylor says the transition has been pretty smooth, especially with the increased work load, but his goal is to prepare students for wrestling.
“Just trying to get these guys ready for what the high school season is, compared to a middle school season. Because we do split here in Stuart, where they do basketball for the first couple of months, and then wrestling isn’t even until after Christmas break. Trying to get those guys ready to go has been the biggest challenge. Getting by into the long hours, long practices, long bus rides (and) long tournaments.”
The Wildcats took freshman Drew Teague, along with sophomores Tyler Peugh and Tryce Dlouhy to the Iowa High School Athletic Association State Wrestling Tournament this year.
