An annual fundraiser is coming up for the Jefferson Kiwanis Club.
The non-profit organization is hosting the Staley’s Chicken Dinner this Sunday from 11am-1pm at the Greene County High School commons. The meal will include broasted chicken, along with mashed potatoes and gravy, corn, salad, a dinner roll, dessert and a beverage. Jefferson Kiwanis President Chad Butterfield says this is one of their three fundraisers they do every year, with the other two being the pancake breakfast in the fall and a can collection location at Ace Hardware. He talks about the importance for their organization to support area youth.
“Those monies are accumulated and then reinvested into the community for projects that further kids. Kiwanis is a great club to be involved with because it really is about the community, reinvesting in the kids of our community and making sure that they have the things, and the education and the knowledge to be able to move forward.”
Butterfield points out some of those reinvestments include donating to the Dolly Parton Imagination Library that Greene County participates in, giving books to young children through Greene County Elementary and the public library, as well as providing scholarships for graduating high school seniors, among other efforts.
Tickets for the chicken dinner fundraiser are $15 for adults, $10 for students and anyone who is five and under can eat for free. Tickets are available from any Kiwanian, at the Greene County Community Center, and a limited number can be purchased at the door.
