Carter Morton of Jefferson, the sixth year senior at the University of Northern Iowa, has qualified for the NCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field Championships in the seven event heptathlon. The 2026 Championships will be held March 13-14 at the Randal Tyson Event Center in Fayetteville, AK. Morton is a returning first team All-American in the event, having placed fifth in 2025. He enters the 2026 heptathlon with the fourth highest score from the indoor regular season and he’s one of just four qualifiers who are not from so-called Power 4 conferences. UNI belongs to the Missouri Valley Conference. Four of the 16 heptathlon qualifiers are from both the Big 10 and Big 12 Conferences. with

Morton is a 2020 Greene County High School graduate and is the son of Chad and Deb Morton of Jefferson.
