The Greene County Historical Society invites everyone to see the Civil War come to life with a special program on Sunday.
According to the historical society, the program “Just Before the Battle, Mother” will feature O.J. Fargo from Creston who will portray a Civil War soldier for the Union Army. Fargo says attendees are encouraged to ask questions as he will continue to stay in his 1860s character. The historical society says Fargo will also have several Civil War artifacts on display, as well as books that he has written about the war, and he will share an electronic Civil War roster that includes the 72,000 Iowans that served.
Organizers note that Fargo is a former social studies teacher, as well as an adjunct professor for the Green Valley Area Education Agency in Creston.
The free program, sponsored by Humanities of Iowa, takes place at 2pm at the museum in Jefferson.
