After a remarkable run to the championship game, Carlisle proved tough to topple for DCG. The Wildcats pounced on the Mustangs to win 38-36 and claim their first girls basketball championship in school history.

In the first quarter, DCG got out to a strong start, especially from beyond the arc. Leah Brauch got the scoring started, hitting from outside, then teammate Macy Meyer hit from way downtown to put in her first field goal since the quarterfinals to make it 8-5.

In the second, star senior for Carlisle, Macy Comito, woke up. She hit all three shots she took from the field, including a three-pointer. Meyer made two more triples, then Ava Smid got involved with two field goals in the painted area as the Mustangs took a 21-16 lead into the break.

In the second half, it was all Carlisle. Five points from Comito, along with four from her fellow seniors, Ella Smith and Alyvia Freeman, gave the Wildcats their first lead of the game. They outscored the Mustangs 15-7 in the 3rd. Carlisle used a 2-3 zone look for most of the game, and with their length, DCG couldn’t get into their offense the way they wanted.

In the final frame, it was nip and tuck. The Mustangs fought hard playing scrappy on defense but the deficit was too much to overcome as the Wildcats made free throws when they needed and played suffocating defense on their way to a 38-36 victory. With the win Carlisle claims the first girls basketball state title in school history.

The Mustangs end the season 23-3, co-conference champs in the Little Hawkeye, and state runner-ups. Congratulations to the Mustangs on a phenomenal season.
