Panorama senior Ella Carico is gearing up for her final track and field season, as she’ll be doing two main events this year.
Carico shares that she’ll be participating in the sprints as well as long jump. She explains that she originally began doing track and field in middle school, then took a break during her freshman and sophomore years to turn her attention to wrestling, before getting back into the sport her junior season. Carico reveals that she was challenged in a unique way last year.
“I think my favorite thing about last season was not really getting out of my comfort zone, but a little bit with high jump because being a shorter track participant, it just felt a little strange with a bunch of tall people doing high jump.”
In terms of preparing for the season, Carico mentions that she’s been running on her own, been in the weight room, and that wrestling has definitely helped with the conditioning. Panorama will compete in their first meet on Friday in Ames for the Class 2A Iowa Association Track Coaches Indoor Championships at the Lied Recreation Athletic Center at 4:30pm.
