A childhood dream becomes a reality at Perry Community Schools as Abraham Cardenas, a 2006 Perry High School graduate returns to the pitch as new head coach for the Bluejays after longtime head coach Gary Overla recently retired.

Joining us on our Raccoon Valley Bank Dallas County PM Sports Magazine, coach Cardenas expressed his excitement and joy as his childhood dream of coming back to coach at Perry becomes a reality.

“That’s really exciting because I grew up here, watching the high school team play and I was born in Mexico and I always played (soccer) since I can remember. Me being a young keep, just watching them, my eyes sparked. I said ‘one day I’m going to be here playing’ and I was, for four years. Unfortunately, we didn’t meet all the goals that I wanted as a player, so since then that’s why my goal is to come back and be the head coach for this program.”

The first official practice for the Bluejays soccer team is less than a week away, scheduled for Monday, March 16th.
