The Stuart City Council met in regular session Monday night.

The Council approved a resolution implementing a Length of Service Award Program for the Stuart Fire Department, tabled a decision on proposals for a city attorney regarding human resources, and approved the Cemetery Committee bylaws, code of conduct and confidentiality statement. They also tabled a decision on transitioning to a stuartia.gov email domain, and discussed the Central Mart Travel America tax increment financing application, and nuisance abatement for municipal infractions for 616 North Fremont Street.

The Council then heard about the town cleanup days on April 24th and 25th, and approved a police fleet replacement and equipment acquisition plan, as well as discussed police officer recruitment. Other items approved on the agenda included the West Central Valley High School building addition, the first 2026 street improvements project change order for $35,740, and the public works department proposal for an additional mower and trailer.

The Council also approved the $2 per hour raise for a public works employee who received their grade 1 wastewater treatment certification, a request for an Americans with Disabilities Act compliant ramp at 101 Northwest 2nd Street, then to have Deputy Clerk Sarah Stouffer draft a resolution to act on intersection findings and recommendations collected by the Public Works Department and police department. Approval for cost sharing regarding the Adair County P28 improvements project was also passed, while a residential tax abatement application revision was tabled.

The Council approved sending the All Saints Cultural Center lease to the city attorney for review, and approved sending the roofing warranty to the city attorney, as well as having the city financial advisor look into funding for replacement of the east steps at the All Saints Cultural Center. The final items approved were switching the full time assistant rescue director position to being a full time paramedic, and increasing the salary of Deputy Clerk Stouffer by $5,000, and asking the Utilities Board if they would be open to matching that raise.
