The Adel-DeSoto-Minburn Boys Basketball Team competed in the Iowa High School Athletic Association State Basketball Tournament at the Casey’s Center in Des Moines, beating Xavier 68-59 in the Quarterfinal Round on Monday.
The Tigers came into the contest as the number-two seed in Class 3A, while the Saints were ranked seventh. The first quarter was competitive, as ADM led 18-14. The Tigers began the second quarter on an 8-0 run to jump to a 26-14 advantage, and the lead would grow as high as 18, before Xavier senior Zander Murray hit a halfcourt buzzer beating three-pointer to cut the deficit 40-25 at halftime. ADM senior Hudson Lorensen had a big first half in front with 23 points.
The Saints started the second half with a statement with a 9-0 run to come within six points, but the Tigers were able to extend the advantage to 54-43 at the end of the third quarter. However, Xavier didn’t go away with a 10-2 run start in the fourth quarter, trailing 56-53, but Lorensen hit a monumental three-pointer with two minutes left, then free throws sealed the deal, as ADM survived at 68-59.
