Greene County had a partial squad of track & field athletes inside the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls on Tuesday for the first indoor meet of the season, the A.D. Dickinson Relays. Coach Derek Merk’s Rams had some impressive performances against many of Iowa’s best regardless of size of school.
The Rams were 13th among 34 relays in the 4 x 400 meters in 4:25.83 with seniors Kaycee Pittman, Addison Gannon, and Becca Anderson, with sophomore Hannah Fouch. The 4 x 200 meter relay was 22nd among 67 teams in 1:54.63 with Anderson, Pittman, Gannon, and sophomore Ashlynn Ball. Anderson was 25th among 194 entrees in the 60 meter dash in 8.24 seconds, and Pittman was 28th in a field of 100 in the 400 meter dash in 1:04.47.
Four finishes in the top 30 in this meet is not commonplace for the Greene County girls. Coach Merk was encouraged by the initial outing. The girls and boys from Greene County compete indoors this Friday in Ames on the Iowa State Campus for the Iowa State Indoor Championships in Class 2A starting at 4:15 p.m.
