A California man was arrested following a high speed chase in Dallas County on Wednesday evening.
According to court documents, a deputy with the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a silver Lexus for traveling at 71 miles per hour in a 35 mph zone in Dallas Center.
The criminal complaint states that the vehicle fled and turned on city streets, passing pedestrians at a high rate of speed.
Court documents show that once the vehicle started entering the city of Perry, police officers joined the pursuit, locating the vehicle going northbound on J Avenue.
The criminal complaint details that the vehicle reached speeds of 110 in a 55 mph zone during the chase, which ended in the Perry Hy-Vee parking lot, after hitting spike strips.
Court documents state that the driver, identified as Chandler Hughes, surrendered and officers noticed drug paraphernalia in plain sight in his vehicle.
Hughes was placed under arrest for eluding, a Class D Felony, and possession of drug paraphernalia, a simple misdemeanor, as well as several traffic violations including reckless driving, failure to obey a stop sign, among others.
He was booked into the Dallas County Jail where he remains under a $10,000 cash or surety bond. Raccoon Valley Radio will bring you more information as it becomes official.
