Those looking for a way to give back while being outdoors can attend a monthly program with the Dallas County Conservation Board.

Outreach Coordinator Jeni Baker says Dallas County Conservation will be hosting volunteer time-off days on the second Friday of each month. The first volunteer day will be held from 9-11 a.m. tomorrow at Trindle Park, 415 Wilson Street, in Van Meter.

The park is home to some unique native species hidden underneath the invasive honeysuckle that is growing in the woodlands. Baker details that volunteers will assist conservation staff in the removal of the invasive species to open up the understory for oak trees to breathe and native species to get sunlight.

She adds that those interested in volunteering should register through the Dallas County Conservation’s Eventbrite page. Upcoming Volunteer Days will be held on April 10 at Hanging Rock Park, May 8 and June 12 at Kuehn Conservation Area.
