Two Greene County High School students will be competing tomorrow at the Iowa High School Speech Association State Individual Contest.

Senior Savannah Lansman qualified from the district contest in Expository and Prose after earning a Division I-Rating in both categories. She talks about her initial reaction when she found out she had made it to state in two entries.

“I was definitely very excited. The judges really, like their comments after help me be like, ‘Oh, I think I’m going to do pretty good at this. It definitely helped all of the nerves I was having that day being like, ‘It’s over. It all paid off.’”

Another senior, Becca Anderson, will perform her Poetry about a girl saving her baseball team. She is excited to do her poetry again at state, while trying to keep in mind some of the adjustments she made to get ready.

“I’ll take and consider some of the littler ones. My judge told me to use more hand motions, I didn’t use many. But it’s also hard because each judge had their own opinions about what they like.”

Another senior, Leah McCormick, also qualified for state in Prose, but is not able to attend due to a pre-planned family trip.

Greene County High School will be at Thomas Jefferson High School in Council Bluffs tomorrow.
