Guthrie County Iowa State University Extension and Outreach is preparing for one of their big annual events.

Program Director Shelby Van Horn says that they will be holding a Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) event on March 28th at the Panorama Elementary School, their yearly STEM Fest. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio why they host this event.

“We work with local businesses to, come be presenters, have different booths, stations for youth to do different hands-on activities related to STEM. And it’s just a fun morning for youth to get to go around and kind of explore different careers maybe they would be interested in or pick up some new ideas from different STEM opportunities.”

Van Horn mentions that they try to rotate the location between Guthrie Center and Panora at the elementary schools to give each community the opportunity to host. She adds that even though this year it will be in Panora from 9am to noon, all youth in kindergarten through 6th grade are invited to attend.
