DCG girls’ track and field spent Thursday and Friday up at the Lied Recreation Field House on the campus of Iowa State University. This is the second indoor competition of the week and the championships in 3A track and field.
In the finals, Mustang athletes competed in five races and the high jump. To compete in the finals for any event, you must first qualify in the preliminary rounds. In the 400m, Leighton Stanford earned her way onto the podium with a third-place finish with a time of 58.65. In the 800m, Julia Mora finished with a time of 2:42.61 to finish 27th. DCG had two athletes qualify for the 1500m, and their times were within 7 seconds of each other. Addison Dooley and Lilly Pudenz finished 5:03.68 and 5:10.37 for 13th and 16th, respectively.
The longest distance of the day saw Tenley Heidgerken earn a top-five placement with her time of 10:28.03 in the 3000m. Over in the high jump, Madison Messerly ended her day with a final height of 4-11, which was good for 13th. In the relays, the Mustangs competed in four races. The teams finished 16th and 11th in the 4×100 and 4x400m. The 4×60 team made the top ten, but the 4×800 team really showed out. They won silver with a time of 9:43.79. That group is composed of Dooley, Heidgerken, Julia Mora, and Piper Messerly.
Girls’ track and field is in action next in two weeks at Simpson College.
