With a blizzard warning issued for the Raccoon Valley Radio listening area,
A Dallas County official reminds drivers to be safe as a blizzard warning has been issued for the Raccoon Valley Radio listening area.
The National Weather Service says the listening area will be under a blizzard warning until 7 a.m. tomorrow morning. According to Dallas County Emergency Management Coordinator AJ Seely, area residents should avoid travel if at all possible.
If residents need to be on the road, he stresses the importance of having an emergency kit ready so they are prepared to be stuck in their vehicle.
“If you are caught in a blizzard, generally conditions aren’t great to be outside so staying in your vehicle, calling for help and waiting for that help to arrive. A lot of times we see vehicles drift into the snow and sometimes that can block the exhaust on the vehicles, so you want to make sure that the exhaust pipe is not plugged up and potentially causing a carbon monoxide issue. And generally, just stay informed.”
Seely details that Iowa 511 is a good resource to check road conditions and plow cameras.
