The road conditions across Dallas County continue to improve following last night’s blizzard.

A blizzard warning was in effect for the Raccoon Valley Radio listening area from yesterday afternoon through early this morning. Chief Deputy Bret Maxwell says the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office responded to around 16 calls for service for accidents or motorist assistance over the past 24 hours.

Adel Public Works Director Kip Overton says snow removal crews were out at 4 a.m. this morning. He adds that while crews didn’t have to plow much snow, they applied material to the roads. Overton details that the roads are in good shape as visibility wasn’t too bad in town with the additional protection from trees and houses.

Perry Public Work Director Josh Wuebker says crews were out at 5 a.m. this morning to put salt down.

He adds that the department responded to one incident last night. Wuebker details that a tree fell over on Willis Avenue between Sixth and Seventh Street on a vehicle that was driving down the road. The fire and police departments responded along with public works, which helped lift the tree off of the vehicle.

Wuebker adds that the sun has helped melt the remaining snow and ice from city roads.

Dallas County Engineer Al Miller says that during the blizzard warning, visibility was poor on the county roads. He adds that the area didn’t receive a lot of snow and most of it has blown off of the paved roads.

Miller explains that county crews were out at 5 a.m. to treat sheltered areas with salt and he anticipates those should be clearing up by this afternoon.
