All state roads in the Raccoon Valley Radio area are impassable at this time.
According to the Iowa Department of Transportation, all state roads in Greene, Guthrie and Dallas Counties are considered impassable at this time. The DOT reports that some roads, along Iowa Highways 169 and 141 in southern Greene County and northern Dallas County are partially covered with ice.
Locally in Greene County, Sheriff Jack Williams says deputies assisted four drivers that had slid off the road and into the ditch throughout last night. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio that during the blizzard warning, visibility was poor, but manageable with lots of blowing snow that didn’t quite get to constant white out conditions.
Jefferson Public Works Director Dave Morlan says snow removal crews were out at 5am this morning running their normal routes. He points out all critical and other areas or importance has had sand applied to it and almost all roads have been cleared of the snow from curb to curb. Morlan notes the biggest challenge was the drifting snow due to the high winds. He adds that crews will be out for another hour or so applying additional sand to the roadways.
