The candidates running for state-level positions in the June Primary Election have been announced.

According to the Secretary of State’s Office, House District 47 will have a contested Republican Primary between incumbent Carter Nordman of Dallas Center and challenger Jeremy King of Panora. There is also going to be a contested Democratic race in the June Primary for House District 47 with Chris New from Dallas Center and Charley Newman of Guthrie Center. Iowa House District 47 includes Greene and Guthrie Counties, along with the northwestern portion of Dallas County.

The Secretary of State’s Office shows there will be no contested race in the June Primary for Iowa House District 23 as the Republican incumbent Ray Sorensen of Greenfield is unopposed against Democrat Karen Varley of Stuart. Iowa House District 23 covers Adair and Madison Counties, along with portions of Dallas, Union and Clarke Counties.

As for Iowa House District 28, the Secretary of State’s Office say there will also be no contested race in the June Primary with the Republican incumbent David Young of Van Meter seeking re-election and Democrat challenger Tom Walton of Waukee are both running unopposed. Iowa House District 28 includes a large portion of Dallas County.

The deadline for individuals wishing to run in the county-level June Primary must have their nomination papers submitted to their respective County Auditor’s Office by the end of the work day this Friday.
