With the outdoor track season on the horizon, members of the Bluejays and Jayettes track teams got their first taste of competitive action last week on Thursday at the 2026 IATC Indoor Championships for Class 3A.

Making his debut for the Bluejays track team, freshmen Xavier Leake took the track in Ames participating in the long jump event. In his first outing as a rookie, Leake jumped 18 feet 3.75 inches or 5.58 meters. Leake looks to join juniors Nadir Ouahbi and Owen Zander, with Ouahbi leading the team last year in long jump with a jump of 18 feet 11.75 inches.

Already clearing 18 feet as a freshmen, Leake looks to work alongside Ouahbi and Zander to continue to improve in his rookie season with the first meet of the season for the Bluejays scheduled for Tuesday, March 24th.
