Community members can learn more about the Perry Community School District’s budget process during a pair of public hearings.

The Perry School Board will hold the hearings for the 2026-27 certified budget and property tax statement starting this week.

Superintendent Clark Wicks says the first public hearing will be held at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at the Perry High School Brady Library, 1200 18th Street. He adds that the second public hearing will be held on Monday, March 30, at the same time and location.

Wicks talks about the budget process and the district’s proposed property tax levy.

“The process is very involved because it deals with all the different buckets of funding, whether it’s the general fund, instructional support levy, the management fund. So you add all those things together and what we want to try and do is being able to balance keeping the tax rate at the same or a touch lower, if at all possible, and still run a school efficiently and provide a great environment for students and staff. So this current year, we were at $18.58. We lowered it five cents, so the key word there is lowered, to $18.53. The good news is lowering taxes. And we want to try to continue to be steady with that as much as possible.”
